PREZENTARE CARTE
Kintsugi, the art of giving a new, improved life to broken pottery, is an inspired metaphor inviting a series of important thoughts and values that the present book is engaging. Continuing
the volume published last year at EUV, The Stained Glass Human, this new ESP coursebook by Dr. Elisabeta Zelinka, titled The Kintsugi Human, addresses a multidimensional and
multidisciplinary understanding of the teaching and learning process. Using English language as a medium and as a means, the coursebook raises the students’ awareness and increases their
sensitivity to pressing matters and important contemporary subjects, which the ever more globalized, but also the ever more fragmented, polarized world is facing. If damage is not hidden, but capitalized, it means, in a teaching environment, that marginalization, injustice and trauma are worth foregrounding and multiple truths, no matter how uncomfortable, are worth surfacing. Students can, thus, learn that problems are not to be solved through oversimplification, but through structural thinking. Kintsugi requires patience and respect for the broken object, so its allegory employed in the classroom context presents knowledge and acquisition as a profoundly ethical act and the teacher-student relation as a collective act, a dynamic and creative process.
