PREZENTARE CARTE
Under the symbolism of the stained glass, this coursebook invites students to delve deeper into the vast array of opportunities offered by the humanistic sciences. Interdisciplinary by definition, humanities are more than a set of academic disciplines, they are a valuable toolkit for the contemporary young generations, providing case studies about how to interact with the world, how to deal with the pressing issues of modern life, how to show empathy. Elisabeta Zelinka’s book is a convincing argument in favour of this mission assumed by the humanities, which, paraphrasing philosopher Santiago Zabala, rather than rescuing humans from emergencies, rescue them into these crises – be they ecological, social, ethical, or of identity. While its immediate purpose is to teach students in social and humanistic sciences English (ESP), this coursebook subtly guides them also through the dilemmas of post- and transhumanism, through its refined selection of the corpus and the astute item writing.
