„At the intersection of social philosophy and the ethics of work, Work and Moral Responsibility: A Study of Axel Honneth’s Theory of Recognition examines how Axel Honneth’s theory of recognition can serve as a normative framework for critiquing labor and its organization in contemporary societies. The book explores the extent to which current labor practices meet the moral demands implicit in the concept of recognition.
The author investigates the complex relationship between work, recognition, autonomy, and moral responsibility, highlighting the challenges faced by contemporary forms of work organization in legitimizing their practices through appeals to ethical values. Through a systematic analysis and an internal critique of the limits of Honneth’s approach to labor, Alex-Flavius Deaconu proposes an extension of the recognition model that incorporates the concept of “ambivalent recognition” and integrates moral responsibility into triadic work relations.
This original contribution positions the author’s work within a distinct register of the literature on Honneth, complementing existing interpretations while offering an innovative theoretical framework for critically understanding work and responsibility through the lens of recognition. The volume thus emerges not only as a critical reinterpretation of Honneth’s theory, but also as a novel conceptual perspective on the ethical dimension of contemporary work realities.”
